Bennie is a lucky little guy indeed! When we received word that a rural shelter was dangerously overcrowded and was going to have to do a mass euthanasia for the first time in a long time, we quickly checked to see how many dogs we could make room for. After seeing Bennie's sad little face on the other shelter's website, we knew he had to be one of the dogs we saved. And it was lucky for Bennie that we did pull him because, unbeknownst to anyone at the other shelter, little Bennie had been exposed to Parvo. We attributed his quiet demeanor and lack of appetite on his first day with us to his being nervous in his new environment but, by the second day, we knew something was physically wrong. Knowing speed was of the essence, we rushed Benny to a vet for life-saving treatment. Bennie certainly had a Guardian Angel looking out for him - the first time when he was transported to ACS and the second time when he made a quick and full recovery from a virus that could easily have killed him. With an estimated birth date of mid to late May xxxx, this little Chihuahua mix weighed 8.3 lbs at three months of age so we doubt he'll be a very big dog once he's done growing. Bennie is a super sweet little guy that loves people and other dogs. He is working on house-training but his new owner should be prepared to continue his training. To be part Chihuahua (and a puppy to boot), Bennie's actually pretty quiet. He sits back on his bed and watches everything that goes on with a curious look on his face and when you approach his kennel he's quick to meet you with a madly wagging tail! No doubt he's happy to be in such a nice comfy environment but, as nice as our shelter's accommodations are, it's not the same as the comforts of a real home with someone who will be happy to take over our job of spoiling little Bennie rotten!
